On 6 February, the 6 Nations Tournament will start strongly with a match between Italy and France. The France-nd rugby match, undoubtedly one of the most eagerly awaited of the competition, will take place on March 13th.
The odds of France’s next match, against Italy, are already posted by the bookmakers, as are the odds of the future winner of the 6 Nations Tournament. Not surprisingly, England is the big favourite, with an odds of 3.25 on Winamax.
There are many betting possibilities for the different matches of the 6 Nations Tournament. Let’s take the Italy vs France match as an example, with bets such as the number of points, the result and margin of the winner, the result at half-time or the half-time with the most points.
These types of bets, which are more difficult to predict, also offer better odds and therefore more interesting winnings in case of a good prediction.
Win / place bets: a good idea in rugby?
You will note when you make your bets the mention “placed bet”. For example “place bet: 2 places paid 1/3 of the odds”. This means that you can win if your team finishes in the top 2, and not only if it wins the competition.
Let’s take an example: you estimate that Toulon will win the title and bet 10€ on them to win. So you make a so-called “winner’s bet”: if Toulon is champion, you win 37€ (your bet multiplied by the odds). If Toulon fails, you leave empty-handed.
If you choose the win/place option, you also win if Toulon is 2nd in the Top 14. In this case, as shown, you win 1/3 of the odds. Here is the calculation to be carried out to know the “placed” odds:
- “Placed” odds = (“winner” odds – 1) x (fraction of “placed” odds) + 1.
- In our example, this gives: (3.70 – 1) x (1/3) + 1, which is equal to 1.9.
- If Toulon finishes 2nd, for a bet of €10, you win €19.
Betting “placed” in rugby is a good idea for competitions where there are 2 favourites. In this particular case of the top 14, there are many teams who are aiming for the title: Toulon, Racing, Montpellier, Clermont, even Toulouse… This is not the best case.
Rugby Betting
If you’re a fan of the Pariament Sport grids, here’s how to bet on the Top 14 or the 6 Nations.
Get a classic Pariament Sport 1N2 grid. It is valid for all sports, including rugby. You can easily find it in the nearest tobacco bar, together with other FDJ products such as Lotto or Keno.
Consult the list of matches: this list is usually present at the place where the grids are located.
Choose your winner: square 1 corresponds to the home team, the N to the draw, and square 2 is reserved for the away team. Make a pencil cross in one of these 3 squares to predict your result. For example, if you tick box 1, it means that you think the home team will win the match.
Select your bet: 8 betting levels are available, from €1 to €100. Make a cross in the corresponding box of your choice: the sum in play is your bet multiplied by the odds of the chosen match(es). For example, if you bet €2 on a home win at the Stade Français in Toulouse, rated at 1.5, you will win 2 x 1.5 = €3.Validate your grid: always at your tobacconist’s, you have up to a few hours before the match to validate your grid: this allows you to change your choice in the event of a last-minute event!
